I'm almost certain that I read that also he wasn't given any credit on songs that he co-wrote. It sounds like he was frustrated. You can't always believe what you read though.

No, he said he didn't want to try and keep up with some of the other band members doing what they were doing with the addiction element of drugs and trying to keep his family together was way more important! Read up on some of this stuff. I wasn't sure either but I'm sure there was some other reasons too!

He did not give a reason why he left the band, he simply told them that he was resigning. It is said that I did not tolerate those years of much excess, of all kinds drugs, alcohol. ...IT was gone after finishing recording "It's Only Rock 'n Roll" 1974. @patrick6770
